Definition Of Resistance And Their Types

Resistance

"The opposition to the flow of an electrons is called an Electrical Resistance"(Due to bonds between electrons and protons as well as to collision).
OR
"The property of an electric circuit which opposes the flow of electric current is called Resistance"

Types of Resistors

1) Fixed Resistor

These are the simplest type of Resistors, fixed means that the unit is so constructed that it's resistance value is constant and unchangeable. These are made up of carbon composition and have a cover of black or brown hard plastics.

2) Tapped Resistor

These are the resistors which has a tap or connection, somewhere along the resistance material. These resistors are usually if wire wound type.If they have more than one tap ,they Will have a separate terminal for each

3) Variable Resistor

These resistor has movable contact that is used to adjust or select the resistance value between two or more terminals.A variable resistor is also called as control.

4) Special Resistor

The most common type of special resistor is the fusible type.A fusible resistor has a definite resistance value and it protects the circuit much like a fuse.Another special resistor is the temperature compensating unit.Such resistors are used to provide special control of circuit that must be extremely stable in their operations.

Resistors are used in electrical circuit

1) Carbon Resistors
2) Wire wound resistors on ceramic or plastic forms
3) Deposited carbon resistors on ceramic base
4) Deposited metal resistors on ceramic base
5) Printed, painted or etched circuit resistors
